Hip Hop Music

Hip-hop music is the vehicle of hip-hop culture and contains “rapping” (superimposed with vocals) by emcees. Owing to this, hip-hop music is sometimes referred to as “rap music,” However, those who dismiss hip-hop as rap music do not comprehend its rich history and the influence this genre of music has on youth culture.

Hip-hop music is a vehicle used by the singers to address racism, oppression, and poverty issues. It narrates tales of inner city African-Americans living the American dream (through hard work, courage and determination one can achieve prosperity) from the bottom up, and bitterly touches upon racial discrimination, broken homes, and overcoming adversity.

Invented by Jamaican migrant DJ Kool Herc in the early 70s in New York City, it has since then spread its tentacles across the world. Herc shifted from reggae records to funk, rock and disco. Owing to the short percussive breaks, he began extending them using an audio mixer and two records. As the unique style of music became a hit, performers (emcees) began superimposing the music with vocals; initially, they introduced themselves and others in the audience. Later, the rapping became more diverse, incorporating brief rhymes, often with a sexual or violent theme, in an attempt to entertain the audience.

In the mid-1970s, hip-hop split into two groups. One focused on getting the crowd dancing, another highlighted rapid-fire rhymes. The 1980s witnessed further diversification in hip-hop; highly metaphoric lyrics rapping over multi-layered beats replaced simple vocals. In the 90s, gangsta rap (glorified outlaw lifestyle) became mainstream. Hip-hop was soon an integral part of mainstream music, and nearly all the pop songs featured an underlying element of hip-hop.

In the 90s and into the following decade, elements of hip-hop were integrated into diverse genres of music: hip-hop soul combined hip-hop and soul music; in the Dominican Republic, a recording by Santi Y Sus Duendes and Lisa M was coined “Meren-rap,” a fusion of hip-hop and meringue. In Europe, Africa, and Asia, hip-hop has undergone a transition from an underground occurrence to the mainstream market.

Piano Lesson Study Tips for Memorizing Music Knowledge

Piano students need to learn music theory to tap into all their musical potential. This involves some memorization of facts, however, so that they come easily to mind while playing. Don’t let this intimidate your or your piano student at home. This is not hard to do, it just takes a little creativity and planning. Here are three creative memory techniques that work, even for young children.

1. Organizing the material for easier storage and retrieval.

Since music theory can all be seen on the piano keyboard, visualization is an important tool or organizing information that will be easily accessible. Scales, for example, should be learned on the keyboard without looking at notes on the staff. Mental keyboard pictures of the scales are much easier to store and retrieve than notes on the page. The same is true for memorizing chords. Start with memorizing the keyboard imagery first, then draw the notes out on the staff and play them.

2. Adding meaning to the material through association.

The primary chords of each key can be memorized easily by associating them with acronyms for short ideas which are fun to recall. The primary chords in the key of D are D Major, G Major, and A Major. “Dga, Dga Drum’ is the “beat” is use the remember this. Just come up with ideas that are fun for you and memorizing these will be easy

3. Funneling the material.

Organizing the material you want to remember from General to specific will also make recall easier. For example, memorize the Circle of Thirds. Then memorize the Seven Keyboard Triads, which are made from the Circle of Thirds. Then Memorize the Major and Minor Chords from the 7 Keyboard Triads.

Follow these examples and create more creative ways of your own to memorize the music facts you want to keep at your fingertips. Remember this - you can memorize all the music knowledge you want to with a logical plan to get it done. Even very young children can use the tecnhiques above because they’re so effective.

Free, Legal Music Online

Almost everyone has heard about the massive crack down on Internet music piracy that has been occurring over the past few years. Napster was taken down (although it has now returned as a pay service), other file sharing programs now require users to pay for a license and the RIAA and other similar organizations are doing their best to hunt down copyright offenders and put an end to their crime sprees. The consumers on the other hand argue that their actions hurt nobody, that there is no damage done to anyone by their not buying an album. Furthermore, they claim, MP3s allow them to sample a CD before purchasing it, thus actually helping sales.

I’m not here to argue the pros and cons. Basically it’s not worth it, as neither side of the argument will ever see the opposition’s point of view. What I’d like to do is take a look at the completely free and legal alternative to ’stealing’ music. Those wonderfully talented musicians who are willing to put their creations online to download for free, solely for the joy of spreading their creations to the masses.

Free music is surprisingly easy to come by, even music by famous bands. Sometimes it needs to be ’streamed’ from the Internet, meaning that you can only listen to a song while you’re online, but with the ever-growing popularity of broadband Internet this is really no longer a problem. Sites such as MP3.com and purevolume.com provide free music by almost any band you can think of, although there is a large amount of it that has to be streamed and not downloaded. A search for ‘free legal MP3 downloads’ will reveal a huge number of pages to visit.

For something specific, try visiting the artist’s website, or the site of their record label. These will often offer a few sample tracks to download for free. It’s not quite as convenient as having access to every song that you want, but it’s not a bad alternative.

But how about we forget about the mainstream for just a while and move towards the alternative? Towards the hopefuls, the talented bands that have yet to be ‘noticed’. There are a huge number of these smaller bands out there that are sticking their stuff online for any and all to listen to, just so that they can be heard. These can be easier to find, because most MP3 sites will be filled with these smaller acts. A great place to start is http://www.garageband.com/ or the aforementioned http://purevolume.com

The great thing about smaller bands is that you can often find bands that come from your local area and then go and see them play live. Being able to see a favourite band live more than once a year (or lifetime) without expending huge amounts of money and time is pretty cool. Many music search engines will let you search for bands of a particular genre in a particular area, which makes it all quite easy.

A fairly major contributor to the online music scene is the remixer. These people take other tunes and redo them, often in a techno style because one person can do this competently. Chief among the tunes selected to be remixed are those old ditties that used to play through the simplest of sound chips on now aging consoles: the video game theme songs. People now go and grab the main tune line from an old favourite and fill it out, making real the work our imaginations used to do for us to turn the single tone melodies into orchestral masterpieces. A few good places to start are http://remix.kwed.org and http://remix.overclocked.org as well as a personal favourite band http://machinaesupremacy.com

I hope this has given you something to think about. It’s not hard to come across illegal MP3 rips, in fact it’s often hard to avoid them, but if you give the free music scene a look you may find something completely different and new that will really do it for you. With web hosts already being penalized hugely for illegal content being stored on their servers (having an entire server taken down because of one inconsiderate user is damaging and irritating beyond belief) and moves being made to charge ISPs for the content being accessed by their users, it makes more sense than ever to get out there and grab yourself an awesomely original and completely legal music collection.

Successful People Don’t Dwell in the Past

What happens when young people discover their identity is nothing short of apocalyptic and reason enough to change. Like it or not, as the spirit rises, the soul collides with the mind and all that is known is challenged. Every generation grows up with a vision of how they want their world to be. They fix what needs fixing and change what needs changing.

America was living in a bubble in the 1950’s. Everyone in the world knew that : everyone, that is, except Americans. It should have come as no surprise when young people started questioning the absolute authority of adults living in an unforgiving world. No matter what people say, no one can live in a bubble anymore than an artist can create in a vacuum. We are all influenced by the work of our peers as much as by the culture around us.

I once sang in a crazy gospel, jazz and blues group called Celebration. The designated writer for the group, I’d always written inspired love songs and gospel-style messages but Celebration was different. We weren’t the average rock band. Like the Grateful Dead, a group synonymous with the San Francisco acid rock scene whose music was a hybrid of improvised rock, blues and R&B, we had a cult following.

At that time, The Beatles Sergeant Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band was revolutionizing rock. Their lyrics were creative, the album concept and design were innovative, and the advanced studio technology was unheard of. They were the first rock musicians to experiment with blending orchestral instruments with unusual ones. They took chances. It all worked to produce an escapist album based on a surreal world that didn’t exist. Sergeant Pepper portrayed the lives of average people whose wild fantasies broke up the monotony of their humdrum, work-a-day life. The Beatles changed rock music forever.

Sergeant Pepper was the beginning of a new era for the Beatles. It had a huge influence on my writing. Sergeant Pepper sounded like something I should be writing. So, I imagined a theatrical experience for Celebration, introduced by a song welcoming the audience we knew all too well. The song was a fantasy greeting to old friends. The lead singer acted like a master of ceremonies in a three ring circus. Like Sergeant Pepper, more songs followed and from then on our concerts were never the same. Nothing less than theater.

I had discovered a new identity. In the weeks ahead, we introduced every theatrical element imaginable, jazz dancers, multi-media, beat poetry, you name it. The circus got out of hand. We lost our focus in the midst of spectacle. The message was lost. In the end, I had a severe ego attack. On my last night with the band, I dressed in a full length robe and let loose a barrage of quasi-rock star poses. It was hard to tell where the reality ended and the fantasy began. That’s when I knew it was time to go. My conscience caught me just in time. I quit the band and joined a theater company to satisfy the urge to act.

The song writers and the songs they create are the basis for the music industries existence. But, when the songs and the persona overwhelm you and the music takes over your life. It’s time to stop. Music is only music after all.

Do you have the desires to get a new stereo and expect 35000 euro

A bank in Palatine Illinois or so can have a total different actual rate of interest for a 32500 dollar money loan then a moneylender in Mesa Arizona and that makes a huge clear difference in your weekly pay offs. Be brilliant today to analyze if you have a special offer or if you don’t with the merchant bank that offers you a money loan. It makes no difference if you live in Holyoke Massachusetts or in Abilene Texas a honest online check up will preserve you often a lot of anguish. 5.7 percent interest rate may seem so fairish but will that be the same after you’re going to pay back your credit loan. Check up to see if the merchant bank who wants to give you a credit loan is . At this moment you can check out rates of interest quickly at websites and understand if there are other sneaky conditions you should know about.

Many of the merchant banks wil show you a loan rate that is looking fair but doesn’t feel well or so after a period of time. That’s the reason why now you really need to check over and fancy if you can have a loan at a just percent rate.

Outdoor Hiking a Healthy Activity

Everything that is an outdoor activity, should always be considered a good thing. Fresh air, pollution free and no city environment are elements that help the mind, as well as the body. Outdoor hiking is certainly among some of the activities that should be pursued. Hiking has all the right components, walking, sightseeing and nature appreciation. During hiking, it is possible to see and enjoy woods, trees and plants that you don’t see every day, sometimes even some rare flowers could be spotted. Of course, animals can be found on their wild habitat. It’s truly a priceless scene.

There are different levels of difficulties when it comes to hiking, usually determined by the altitude, the overall environment and the length of the walk. It is always advisable to bring along maps and compasses, have a clear walking plan and have at least a general idea on the length and time needed to do it all. It is also advisable not to bring kids along when it comes to difficult paths, but if everything is kept simple, then children can truly appreciate nature, in a way that they probably never saw before. It could be indeed a great learning and family bonding experience that will last for a very, very long time.

Finding Free Quilting Patterns

The other day I discovered this great quilt social site online that I really liked. This site had some amazing networking tools as well as things like forums, photo galleries and other features that make it easy for quilters all over the world to come together and share the craft! They even have free quilting patterns you can download and use to make your own creations! One thing I love about quilting is that it is a highly creative and vibrant hobby, and now with this site you can connect with fellow quilters and expand your fun into the many different tools available including video conferencing!

My mother used to quilt alot when I was growing up. My baby blanket was my mother’s creation. My first real blanket was also my mother’s creation. She had a real talent from quilting that I respected even from a very young age. I remember telling my mom that I wanted to be like her when I grew up. My mom taught me everything I know and now she’s shown me a site with free quilting patterns and an amazing social network that she calls her secret weapon. She says that their are some amazing pictures of other people’s work that gives her some amazing ideas for new quilts.

Lori Nuic Sparkles

A soulful vibe along with an amazing voice is what Lori Nuic is gifted with, she got the crowd grooving as she performed at Launch Pad at the Cameron House for the first time.

This young starlet started out by playing a big part in a high school musical, Leader of the Pack, bringing her to the stage today and playing songs that any crowd would love.

“Just to have an audience to listen to you is cool,” Lori said.

The energy in the audience was amazing as this Kitchener girl sang, looking like she has been doing it for years.

Together with her eclectic voice, she mainly plays the guitar but also dips into the keyboard. Before Lori’s performance at Launch Pad, she asked the audience for some spoons or a cowbell which she also likes play, adding a little spice to her tunes. Too bad no one had any of those instruments to spare.

Dancing was what Lori started out with taking it into University, but she said, “I knew that music was what I always wanted to do.”

As a young age Nuic learned how to play the guitar and her voice was discovered after singing songs from the movie Beaches with her friend.

“It doesn’t seem like hard work when you love what you are doing,” Lori said.

She is not the only one in her family to have such passion for music. Lori’s brother is in a band and plays the drums and bass. “I look up to my brother because he is a musical genius,” Nuic said.

Lori is working on her first album. To her it has been a lot of fun to create, yet stressful. You will be able to see it out in early 2005.

I will definitely be looking forward to seeing Lori at the Cameron House in the future, she has so much talent and a great personality to go with it.
