Information You Need to Know About B.tox
Sydney Botulinum therapy (B.tox for short) has become popular in Sydney society in fact it is fast becoming a grooming essential for people in Sydney.
But I am frequently startled when I listen to the various half truths which surround the treatment. I have included below a few of the myths which I come across everyday at Star Cosmetic Medicine, where I practise as a physician.
Myth # 1: My facial muscles will freeze!
Research has determined there are around 60 muscles underneath the skin of your face. The excessive use of these muscles can cause fine line formation. Too great a dose of B.tox can result in the muscles of the face becoming a little less expressive. Most doctors would use comparatively small dosages to are designed to make you appear refreshed, yet you will still be every bit as expressive.
Therefore the right quantity of B.tox in the right place means you can achieve a reduction in any wrinkles without reducing facial expression.

Myth # 2: B.tox is a deadly poison!
There is a grain of truth in this. Its scientific name is Botulinum Toxin Type A. An overdose can result in a decrease in muscle tone and may make one very ill.
But to help you grasp the bigger picture - an old chemist’s expression is that ‘everything is poisonous - all depending on the dose’. Any medicine will make someone very sick in large dosages. If you drink too much water it can result in death.
Myth # 3: Wrinkle injections will be painful!
The needles we use at Star Cosmetic Medicine have a diameter smaller than a human hair. Several people compare the shots to mosquito bites. It certainly is not as sore as something like a blood test.
Myth # 4: I might lose feeling in my face!
This is totally wrong. Botulinum medicine works on the junction between the nerve and the facial muscle, not the nerves of sensation. Only the ability to relax muscles is impacted by B.tox.
Myth # 5. You must keep having B.tox otherwise you will age quicker than before!
This is also untrue.
BoTox is believed to last for upwards of three months. Further injections do last a little longer. Eventually as muscle strength returns to normal the lines will reappear little by little. Nevertheless they certainly will not be any more pronounced than before the treatment.
As A Matter Of Fact any wrinkles will in general be less evident than if you had never had B.tox injections - even if you never repeat the therapy. This, of course is typically so because your facial muscles and skin have had a ‘wrinkle holiday’ for a few months.
