2005 World Series of Poker — Final Tournament Report

Now that the 2005 World Series of Poker has finished, we can tell you what took place in Events #23 through #45. But most importantly we can announce what happened in the Main Event and who won the $7,500,000 top prize and became the 2005 champion.

Event #23 “Seven Card Stud” had a happy Jan Sorensen from Denmark ready to take home $293,275 and a bracelet for winning this tournament. Event #24 “No Limit Hold’Em” was won by the very serious, solid playing Farzad Bonyadi who earned $594,960 for the effort. In Event #25 “Pot-Limit Hold’Em”, Johnny Chan won his 10th WSOP bracelet breaking a 3-way tie with him, Doyle Brunson and Phil Hellmuth Jr., setting a record in the process. Johnny picked up a hefty $303,025 as well. Actress Jennifer Tilly turned heads again by winning Event #26 “Ladies No-Limit Hold’Em”. She actually dominated final table play against top women poker players in the world to win $158,335 and a bracelet you can’t buy in a store anywhere. Expect no less from the girlfriend of Phil “Unabomber” Laak. Phil Ivey overcame a determined Robert Williamson III to win Event #27 “Pot Limit Omaha with Rebuys” earning his 5th gold WSOP bracelet and $630,685. Dan Schmiech won $404,585 by winning against actor Gabe Kaplan in the Event #28 “Limit Hold’em” tournament. Event #29 “No Limit Hold’Em” has Lawrence Gosney as this years champion pocketing $483,195 for the win. Now Event #30 “Seven Card Razz” is actually a little tough to understand and play, but O’Neil Longson proved he could do it and took home $125,690 as proof.

The 3-way tie Johnny Chan broke earlier became a tie again as Doyle Brunson won the Event #31 “No-limit Hold’Em (Short Handed 6/table)” tournament earning his 10th WSOP bracelet and $367,800 once again showing how his legendary reputation was earned. Event #32 “Omaha High-Low Split” was won by David Chiu taking home his 4th bracelet and $347,410. Andre Boyer, a poker analyst for TV station Le Réseau des Sports in Quebec won Event #33 “No Limit Hold’Em” who’s skill was rewarded with a $682,810 payday. Event #34 “Seniors No Limit Hold’Em” has a new champion who’s name is Paul McKinney. Paul, who is 80 years old, can relax in the sun after depositing $202,725 in his bank account. Rafi Amit won Event #35 “Pot Limit Omaha” and $511,835 after becoming victorious in a heads up battle with Vinny Vinh.

A dominate Todd Witteles won Event #36 “Limit Hold’em” knocking out opponents left and right to take home the bracelet and $347,385. Event #37 “No Limit Hold’Em with Rebuys” was won by Jon Heneghan taking home $611,015 in the process. Event #38 was a super satellite tournament for seats to the Main Event, so no prize pool or list of winners was produced. Event #39 “No Limit 2 to 7 Draw Lowball with Rebuys” had David Grey as the champion who was heralded with $365,135. Event #40 was also a super satellite like #38 so there is nothing to report unfortunately. When it came time for raising money for charity, the media and celebrities in Event #41 showed up at the tables. Randy Bowman of the media won $10,000 for the Noblesville Boys and Girls Club.

Event #42 is the WSOP Main Event, the big tournament where millionaires are born. This year the first place prize was $7,500,000 and every person who made the final table became a millionaire guaranteed. 5,619 entrants competed in the tournament making it the largest in WSOP history. In fact it was so large that it had to be spread out over 9 days. 2004 champion Greg Raymer made it up to 25th place before elimination, receiving $304,680 for his efforts. But it was Joseph Hachem who became champion for this year, pocketing the $7.5 million and a beautiful diamond bracelet that can only be earned by winning the Main Event.

For those who were busted out of the Main Event, they found additional tournaments for play in Events #43, #44 and #45 which were 1 day events. Ron Kirk beat out players like Erik Seidel and Marcel Luske to take home $321,520 for winning the Event #43 “No Limit Hold’Em” tournament. Event #44 “No Limit Hold’Em” was won by John Pires who received $220,935 for his victory. And the Event #45 “No Limit Hold’Em” winner was Willie Tann who happily received his bracelet and $188,335 for 1 day’s work! Not bad at all.

Individuals came from across the planet to play in this tournament series. New records were set for attendance, for money won in the WSOP and probably the number of headaches Harrah’s had in setting up and running an event of this magnitude. But in the end everyone from the players, the event champions, the media and the staff of Harrah’s should be congratulated for creating something to be enjoyed and talked about for years to come.

Why Gamble on Sports?

Its really not that big of a stretch of the ole imagination to think that today’s gamblers are no different than gamblers of old, the only real difference is what gamblers of old wagered on and what gamblers of today wager on.

Today we gamble on a lot of the very same things that gamblers of yesterday wagered on, with regard to wagering on horse races, cards, dice, and even political elections to name a few, but gamblers today have the ability to wager on a much wider assortment of things including but not limited to church and fire hall bingo, slot machines, poker machines and even state sponsored lotteries, heck, today we even have a state who has an economy built around gambling halls or what we now refer to as casinos.

It’s kind of hard to believe that it was not all that long ago when a gambler interested in wagering on a sporting event was more or less forced to run his/her wager thru a local bookmaker and thus had to take the line given if he or she wanted to place a wager, unless of course the same gambler had access to other “outs”, meaning that this same gambler had an out of town connection that he used in order to allow himself or herself to gain an edge with respect to the posted spread or money line placed on an event.

In days gone by before the invention of the personal computer, a smart gambler with the right connections could find more than his fair share of “Middle’s”, meaning that if for example NFL team Blue were at home against NFL team Red, it was not that unusual to find the hometown Blue team bet up with the local books because of hometown sentiment while the line placed on the visiting Red team in their hometown would hold steady or be bet down.

Thus, a savvy guy or gal with the right connections in both the Blue city as well as in the Red city might just find a 2 or a 2 1/2 point and sometimes even a 3 point difference in the local line from town to town if he or she looked hard enough and did not hesitate on making a wager upon finding the difference in posted lines city to city.

As an example, lets say that the home Blue team was favored to win by 5.5 points on the opening line but by game time the home town Blue backers had bet the line up to -7 points, meanwhile, the visiting Red team’s fans back home bet the line down to +4.5 by game time.

Thus the line at game time in Blue town is +/- 7 while the line in Red town is +/- 4.5, this creates what is known as a “Middle” meaning that a 2.5 point difference now exists between these teams, the worst that can happen is that one wager will lose and one wager will win which means that all that one would lose is the “juice” associated with the wager, meanwhile, the best that can happen is that the actual score falls somewhere in the middle which allows the gambler to collect on both ends.

Today however, sports wagering is getting bigger and bigger thanks to the availability of the home computer, cable TV, sports talk radio, and of course the influx of so many off shore sports books, thus the days of finding a good many “middles” are gone although an astute gambler can still catch a middle opportunity now and then if he or she keeps their eyes open.

The lines placed on sporting events today are a lot sharper then in days gone by, but it all evens out in the end because the odds maker is now not the only one privy to the multitude of information available surrounding any given sporting event, this is of course due to the large number of gamblers today owning a home P.C. which allows the savvy gambler to not only gain valuable handicapping information via the internet, but to also “line shop”.

So, the real question my friend is “Why should today’s savvy gambler wager on sports instead of wagering on other games of chance”?

Quite simply because a gambler has a much better chance of winning on a consistent basis when gambling on sporting events than he or she has when playing any casino game, slot or poker machine, the state lottery or for that matter any other game of chance, except for maybe poker or blackjack, but regardless of whether you gamble on poker, blackjack or sports, the savvy gambler must have a firm understanding of the game itself and must do his or her homework.

When it comes to wagering on major sports such as football, baseball, basketball and hockey, usually a spread or money line is placed on the game by the lines maker and then this established spread or money line is wagered on by the gambler, however, most novices as well as a lot of supposed experienced gamblers make the mistake of believing that the spread or money line placed on a sporting event is a true indicator of one teams strength and ability versus the opposing teams strength and ability.

The truth of the matter is that the spread or money line placed on a game is meant to garner equal action by the gambler on both teams involved, the winner wins his wager while the loser pays the “juice” associated with the particular wager that he or she placed, thus creating the commission that the middleman or bookmaker/sports book makes for handling the transaction between winning and losing gamblers.

The serious gambler understands that it is not the bookmaker or sports book who is his or her enemy, the true enemy is actually the “Joe public” bettor that places uninformed, opinionated wagers which of course causes what is referred to as line movement.

Line movement is simply the difference +/- in what the opening spread or money line was on a particular event versus what the closing numbers were on the same event, it must of course be understood that many factors can and will influence the opening and closing numbers on an event, including but not limited to weather and injury concerns, but always remember that it is the very same “Joe public” bettor that still influences the established line when they hear of possible weather or injury concerns amongst other things and thus often creates an over reaction with regard to line movement.

Its all about odds and percentages when it comes to gambling my friend, and that is what truly sets apart sports wagering versus other forms of gambling, take a moment and think about it, if you wager on a football game for example and the posted line is -3 or -5 or minus whatever, it is still a 50% proposition on a straight wager that you are either right or you are wrong which makes the odds essentially the same as a coin toss.

Of course you must take into consideration that you pay more when you lose, thus on a straight wager you pay 11 to 10 odds or 110 to 100 dollars wagered, thus the real “Break even” point or winning percentage that you must achieve on straight wagers is actually 52.38% in order to avoid a monetary loss.

Keeping in mind that 52.38% is the break even point with regard to straight wagers, a gambler needs to realize that anything above this percentage is money made, most honest, professional handicappers achieve winning percentages of 57% to 60% over the course of an entire season, often the more experienced handicapper can achieve winning rates of 60% to 65% if the ball bounces right for him or her here and there over the course of the season.

I pointed out the above with regard to what the “Break even” percentage is versus how honest professionals fare over the course of an entire season for a reason, did you ever notice those ads placed in Fridays edition of the USA Today newspaper by scamdicappers claiming winning percentages of 80% or 85% or 90%?

Ever see those claims of “Can’t lose”, or “Sure lock winner”, or “Game of the year”? Heck, if you get up early enough on Saturday or Sunday morning you can even catch a scamdicapper show or two on TV with some of the very same individuals whose ads were in the previous Fridays USA Today newspaper.

Ads such as the ones described above are designed to sucker in the poor souls who in all likelihood have dug holes for themselves and are panicking, in a lot of cases these panicked losers will do or pay anything for a “Can’t lose”, or “Sure lock winner”, or “Game of the year”, I would even venture a guess that this sort of desperate gambler knows in their heart that those claims of 80% or 85% or 90% winners are bogus.

So how did this desperate gambler get into his or her situation to begin with? It happens season in and season out because of a failure to start with a dedicated starting bankroll that is used solely for sports wagering which negates the need to use monies ear marked for the mortgage or car payment.

A dedicated starting bankroll and a firm understanding of money management is a must if anyone wants to survive the peaks and valleys and ups and downs of the season long marathon that is involved with sports wagering.

I will get into the different aspects surrounding money management and other topics in another article, but for now remember the key points brought out in this article, the importance of doing your homework, understanding that the line or odds placed on a contest is meant to garner “equal action” which means that Joe Public is the reason for line movement which of course amplifies the importance of shopping for the best available line thru multiple “outs” while keeping an eye open for middling possibilities.

Poor State of Health and Safety in the Chemical Industry Prompts HSE Warning

The chemical industry is one of the high-risk sectors in terms of health and safety. Any untoward incident can not only jeopardise the safety of the workers, but also put the lives of people residing near the plant in grave danger, as has been proved by several incidents in the past.

It seems though that despite the dangers, many chemical companies are still not taking health and safety issues seriously. After the prosecution of a company in one such case of a glaring lack of safety measures, the HSE has warned the chemical industry to get its act together and ensure the safety of the workers as well as the general public.

The incident that led to the prosecution of Millennium Inorganic Chemicals Ltd. took place in October 2006. During routine vessel draining, a dangerous chemical, titanium tetrachloride or TiCl4, got leaked into the atmosphere. The leak was stopped by an attentive operator, when only about 80 litres of the chemical had been released. TiCl4, when it comes in contact with moisture, can turn into a highly toxic substance and a greater amount of leakage would have almost certainly put the lives of nearby residents in danger.

Employers need to keep themselves up to date with health and safety developments to avoid potential legal action from employers by taking a health and safety courses such as the nebosh distance learning course from Workplace Law Training.

The company is involved in the manufacture of titanium dioxide, a material often used in the aerospace, plastics, and paper industries. TiCl4 is an intermediate product that is formed during the production of titanium dioxide.

A subsequent investigation into the incident revealed that the company had been guilty on several counts, including, insufficient risk management, design faults, and poor supervision.

Mike Nind, the HSE inspector who led the investigation, said after the verdict that the incident could have been averted by following proper safety measures. He said the company should have shown more concern for safety and should have been more careful with such dangerous substances.

Poker is Meant to be Fun

With the recent explosion of interest in poker, it is easy to forget that poker is a social game. We see the high stakes World Series of Poker episodes replayed over and over on ESPN. The Travel Channel features regular showings of The World Poker Tour. The shows are filled with sunglasses and stone cold stare downs. Watching pros such as Doyle Brunson and Howard Lederer make studied moves on the felt is great fun. We secretly dream of bluffing Johnny Chan out of a huge pot.

The good news is, there’s a place that we can try such feats of derring do. That place is right here-the internet. There are online game rooms of every shape and size. It’s no problem finding a game.

The bad news for many of us is, this quest is taking much of the fun out of playing poker. Sure, it’s easy to find a game online. Trouble is there’s just not much interaction with the other players at a typical online table. The other players are anonymous. This can lead to a silent table at best and a downright obnoxious table at worst.

For most of us playing poker is meant to be a relaxing pastime. You know, a Friday night with friends after the work week. A number of websites are trying to put this social aspect back into online poker. For instance, Home Run Poker, is a site where fans of baseball that like to play poker can meet and arrange private games at set times. This way you get to meet and become friends with people from all over the world that share a common interest with you.

If making poker fun again sounds good to you there are a number of actions you can take. Find a community, such as Home Run Poker, where others that share your interest gather. A great place to find such sites is in the blogging community. If you can not find such a group, you might want to start participating with a group whose interests are somewhat similiar to yours. For example, any sports site would be a good match if you are a sports fan. You would probably soon find folks that enjoy your favorite sport, too.

If all else fails, start up your own community. It’s easy to do with a little time and research. You’ll be rewarded with many new friends and you’ll always have a fun game of poker to look forward too. Let’s make online poker fun again.

Rules and Strategies for Roulette

Roulette offers the greatest variety of possible ways you can wager. If you’ve never tried it, the game is easy to learn and we’ll show you strategies that will help make you a winner. Remember that luck comes easier if you know what you’re doing.

Even though there are 11 different kinds of bets, it is an easy game to play. The only skill required is deciding how much and on which number(s) to bet. Like in all gambling, if you ant to win at Roulette you must rely on both luck and strategy.

Roulette is played on a wheel having 38 compartments numbered 1 to 36, 0 and 00. The same numbers are printed on the table lay-out where wagers are placed. The number fields are alternately red and black, except 0 and 00 which are green. The numbers themselves alternate between high/low and odd/even, with the 0 directly opposite the 00. The wheel spins counter-clockwise while a little white ball rolls in the opposite direction. The ball drops into one of the slots and that is the winning number.

Look at the table layout carefully you’ll see that there are “inside” and “outside” sections. You’ll understand how “inside” and “outside” betting works after you’ve become familiar with the 11 different types of roulette bets you can make, along with their payoffs:

THE SIX INSIDE BETS:

One Number: Pays 35 to 1. Put your wager on any number from 1 to 36, or 0 and 00. Be sure your chips are inside the square and do not touch the line.
Two Numbers: Pays 17 to 1. Place your chip (or chips) on the line between two numbers. If either number comes up you win.
Three Numbers: Pays 11 to 1. To choose a row of 3 numbers position your bet on the line that separates the “inside” and “outside” areas.
Four Numbers: Pays 8 to 1. To make this bet, place your wager on a four-number intersection. You win if one of the four numbers is hit.
Five Numbers: Pays 6 to 1. Don’t make this bet! It’s the only one that gives the house an extra 2 % advantage!
Six Numbers: Pays 5 to 1. This bet is placed between two three-number rows on the line that divides the “inside” and “outside” fields.

THE FIVE OUTSIDE BETS:

12-Number Column Bet: Pays 2 to 1. Put your wager in one of the spots marked “2-1″ at the opposite end of zero and double zero.

12-Number Numerical Bet: Pays 2 to 1: Choose between 1st, 2nd, and 3rd twelve. You’re betting on numbers 1 to 12, 13 to 24, or 25 to 36 respectively.

18 Numbers Red / Black. Pays 1 to 1. To make this wager, place your chip(s) on the red or black diamond.

18 Numbers Odd / Even: Pays 1 to 1. There are 18 of each. Take your pick.
18 Numbers High / Low: Pays 1 to 1. Will the winning number be between 1 to 18, or between 19 and 36?

If the minimum total wager is $5 and you are using $1 chips, you may place one or more in each of 5 different “inside” spots or bet all of them on one number, as long as the total adds up to the table minimum. You may cover as many inside numbers as you wish, as long as the total does not exceed the table maximum.

When making outside bets, you can not divide the table minimum over several fields. The whole amount must be placed as one wager on one decision. You may, of course, place more than one bet and/or bet more than the required minimum, but not more than the table maximum.

Never bet more than you can afford to lose, and always quit when you have won as much as you set out to win - such as double your stake. Start cautiously, until you know exactly how the game works and you feel confident.

Compulsive Gambler Shares His Recovery Story About Gamblers Anonymous Now That He Stopped

A compulsive gambler who participated in Gamblers Anonymous program shared his recovery in hopes to help others affected by this addiction.
Sean was an above average student in high school. He played sports, volunteered at the local soup kitchen on holidays and had a high school sweetheart that he married soon after graduating. He went onto college and received his degree. Five years after graduating college he already had two kids and a beautiful home. He was living the American dream. Everything was going perfect in life. Then one day the local news broad cast the grand opening of a gambling establishment. The news reporter hailed it as a big boost for the local economy. Little did Sean know that this new place was going to cost him his life savings and more.

The local excitement generated by the opening stimulated the public’s curiosity. Most people have never really been exposed to gambling and the affects it can have on you. The local news stated that there were going to be just as many stars at the opening as there were at the Academy Awards. Everyone wanted to go and check it out. Besides gambling they have various types of entertainment, unique shopping, first class accommodations and top quality food. Sean called his friends to go and everyone said yes.
Sean had the time of his life. He was one of the lucky ones he won $500.00 and everyone else either broke even or lost their money. They all agreed they had a fantastic night and could not wait to do it again. They all decided that they should go every Friday night. It was time for them to get out of the house and take a break from the kids. Everyone found a babysitter and off they went.

For the next six months Sean, his wife and friends spent Friday nights dancing, eating and gambling. Everyone thought this was the life. They all had good jobs and no financial problems. Sean was on a hot streak. His first game of choice was poker. His wife really did not like to gamble but she like the shops and entertainment. While Sean gambled his wife went to the shows and shopped till she dropped. She thought everything was fine. Sean would hand her $200.00 he said he just won and told her to treat herself to something special at the stores. Little did everyone know that Sean’s $500.00 gambling limit was up to $1,500.00 a week. His friends also did not realize that he was losing. He would run to the cash machine at the end of the night and made people to believe he either won or broke even. He was always an honest guy, there was no reason anyone would suspect that he was lying.

A year had passed and Sean had lost over $15,000.00. The wife had no idea, but Sean was beginning to have doubts about the gambling establishment, but could not stop. He remembers one day he called in sick from work and decided to spend the day gambling. He was sure he could win back all the money he lost. He took $5000.00 out of the bank and lost it all that same day. He was upset with no where to turn.

Another year past and he lost even more money. All of sudden his world was crumbling with no where to turn. He thought about committing suicide by making it look like an accident so his life insurance would take care of his family. He was in so much pain and no one knew. He wanted this madness to stop. He knew his wife knew nothing about his addiction, but knew she was going to find out shortly since he maxed out the credit cards and gambled his mortgage payment.

Sean’s job began to suffer because he was always preoccupied with placing his next bet. He began to isolate himself. He stopped going to lunch with his co-workers. No one questioned why or I should say no one took the time to find out why.

His wife was called by their mortgage company telling her that they did not get their March payment. She called Sean at work and he old her the check must have gotten lost in the mail. He began to panic, became very resourceful and found a way to cover the mortgage. Another two months went by and he finally had to tell his wife. She was stunned in disbelief. She basically told him to get help or get out.

Sean had already known about Gamblers Anonymous but was afraid to go and was scared people would find out. He finally decided to call Gamblers Anonymous and check it out.

Sean found out that Gamblers Anonymous has helped thousands of individuals beat their compulsive gambling addiction. He was smart individual. He realized the expectations that are placed on Gamblers Anonymous are excessive due to the volume of gamblers seeking help with a very unique program. He attended his first meeting and realized he was not alone and help was available if he wanted it.

Gamblers Anonymous has a twelve step program geared towards helping individuals with their gambling addiction.

The twelve steps are as follows:

1. We admitted we were powerless over gambling - that our lives had become unmanageable.

2. Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to a normal way of thinking and living.

3. Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of this Power of our own understanding.

4. Made a searching and fearless moral and financial inventory of ourselves.

5. Admitted to ourselves and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.

6. Were entirely ready to have these defects of character removed.

7. Humbly asked God (of our understanding) to remove our shortcomings.

8. Made a list of all persons we had harmed and became willing to make amends to them all.

9. Make direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.

10. Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong, promptly admitted it.

11. Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.

12. Having made an effort to practice these principles in all our affairs, we tried to carry this message to other compulsive gamblers.

Understanding the Gamblers Anonymous program allowed Sean to decide if this was the right program for him. He was able to relate to all the people at the meeting but felt his situation was different. He saw the pros and cons of this program.

For three months he attended Gamblers Anonymous, his life began to get better until he slipped up and placed a few bets. He was so ashamed that he gambled he didn’t know what to do. He missed the next meeting but decided to go again the following week. He told the group what had happened and they unfortunately change his date that he placed his last bet. This totally discouraged him and reduced his self esteem to the lowest in his life. He still continued to go but his heart was no longer into Gamblers Anonymous. He felt degraded. His sponsor there tried to help him work through it. The next meeting he attended a person walked into the room that he recognized. He began to panic and asked to talk to the chair person. The chair person tried to calm him down, by telling him that everything that happens in this room stays in this room. The person you know is here to get help too.

What Sean didn’t know was this person he recognized had already been in the program for two years and successfully stopped gambling. This person was open about her addiction.

The next week Sean’s wife received a call from one of her friends asking her if Sean had a gambling addiction. She told her friend yes he does and he is getting help. Her friend told her there was a rumor going around about Sean.

Sean’s wife was very upset and called her husband at work. It was unfortunate that the person Sean recognized told only one person her husband. The husband meant no harm but he told a buddy of his.
Gamblers Anonymous is a wonderful program but it is not anonymous and to expect people to keep silent is highly unlikely. Sean stayed with Gamblers Anonymous another two months and then decided it was time to get help elsewhere.

Sean found a unique website that had a private chat room which was available seven days a weeks. He found another source to help him move forward. He was grateful to Gamblers Anonymous for getting his life back in order but knew he needed another way. He found a site called I Stopped Gambling So Can You http://www.istoppedgambling.com/. He checked it out and found this was right for him. The owner of the site believes that Gamblers Anonymous is a wonderful program, but is not for everyone. This was the reason he created the website I stopped Gambling So Can You. He believes the private chat room is perfect for people who would like to keep their gambling addiction private. He also believes that compulsive gamblers should have alternative distinct programs available. The owner of the site also attended Gamblers Anonymous meetings and noticed that a large percentage did not stay. There were no tracking statistics on what happens to compulsive gamblers after they leave. In a three week period he noted a total of four people came and went. When you multiply this by the number of Gamblers Anonymous meetings through out the world you realize that alternative programs are needed.

Sean remembers waking up in the middle of the night, convincing himself that he should gamble just one more time. He told himself no. He then signed in to the I Stop Gambling Chat Room. Only one person was there, but that’s all he needed. They chatted for about an hour and Sean went back to sleep feeling content.

Sean checks in an out of the chat room on a weekly basis. As time passed by, he also went back to a few Gamblers Anonymous meetings to share his thoughts. He believed he found the best of both worlds.

It seems that compulsive gamblers can deal with people knowing only after a year or so has passed since their last bet. This is due to the fact that when compulsive gamblers realize they are at bottom, their self esteem is also at the lowest.

Sean also believes everything is one day at a time and will always be grateful to both Gamblers Anonymous and the private stop gambling chat rooms.

This story has a happy ending. Sean’s wife is expecting a baby in September. Their financial position has changed and their future looks bright.

Sean knows he will always be a compulsive gambler, but has made the choice not to gamble.

Mr. Howard Keith has an extensive background in dealing with individuals who have a compulsive gambling addiction.

A healthy colon is a colon that is free of a toxic waste build up. Having a toxic colon means that there is toxic waste build up accumulating in your intestines, leaving your colon in a toxic state. This toxin accumulation takes the form of perhaps fifteen pounds of fecal matter. When the colon is so backed up, the excess gas will not be able to pass as easily or as quickly as it should be able to. A toxic colon loaded with build up prevents the waste from passing not as easily, but also as often as it should, thus leading to constipation and thorough discomfort. bromalite cleanse can help you by removing the toxic material from your body.

Bad Bets - Why do we make them?

Bad bets attract the equivalent of billions of dollars in wagers from millions of people around the world each week.

Most professional gamblers look at the promoter’s advantage over the player to determine if a specific bet is a bad bet. If the promoter has an advantage of 3 percent or more, it is considered a bad bet.

Every day millions of people buy lottery tickets without the slightest consideration of the promoter’s advantage. Between the promoter and the Government as much as 50 percent is removed from the prize pool either before or partly before for overheads and after the draw as tax. If that is not bad enough, the player’s chances of winning a prize of any description are thousands to one against and the odds of winning the big one are millions to one against.

Many of the players making these bets are well aware that they have only a very slim chance of winning a serious prize but most are amazed when shown the mathematical odds against such a win. My wife is well aware of the odds but each week, she plays a set number of games in ‘Gold Lotto’, a local lottery type game that is somewhat similar to Keno.

Bingo is another classic example of a bad bet. Millions of people play it each week. A return of 75 percent of the take to players is considered a high return in bingo. The odds against getting a bingo and the low return to players make this a classic bad bet.

The Big Wheel or Wheel of Fortune gives the promoter an advantage of about 15 percent. Fortunately most of us only ever play this at fairs and other charity events so we know our money is going to a good cause.

The casino has an advantage of at least 25 percent when we play keno. I know this but whenever I have a meal at a casino I invariably play a few games during the course of the meal.

When you place a five number line bet in roulette and select the 00 to 3 bet, you have chosen the worst possible bet in roulette. On this one the casino’s advantage is a bit over 7 percent.

Recall hearing the stickman at the craps table constantly extolling you to bet ‘Any craps’? It is a sucker bet as are all the proposition bets.

Video Poker and Slot machines are all bad bets unless you read the placards on the machines. Because of the way in which prizes are calculated for winning combinations, you must always bet the maximum number of coins or the casino will always win. This is why it is better to play a lower denomination machine and bet max than to bet the same amount as a single coin on a higher denomination machine.

Today most people think that the casinos have a very small advantage when you play blackjack. Wrong, unless you have mastered at least a basic blackjack strategy. The use of this strategy changes the house advantage from about 5 percent to about 1 percent and this allows a skilled player to become a regular winner.

These examples of bad bets highlight our willingness to regularly make bad bets. Interestingly many of the people making these bets do not consider themselves to be gamblers. This is especially true for the buyers of lottery tickets and bingo players. Cleaver marketing campaigns have popularized many of the bad bets to the extent that many people place them with about as much forethought as we give to purchasing our favorite breakfast cereal at the supermarket. This is especially true for the lotteries.

For the lottery ticket buyers, I believe that it is the allure of instant riches fueled by the publicity given to the big winners collecting their checks in exchange for what amounts to no more than the cost of a couple of cups of coffee that induces so many to contribute to a prize pool from which the vast majority will never benefit.

The rest of us fall into three groups namely those who have made these bets on a regular basis over an extended period of time without ever questioning the wisdom of such bets, those of us who are overtaken by a combination of the euphoria of the moment and alcohol and lastly those who thought it seemed like a good bet at the time.

Of course there are other more scientific explanations for this but the afore mentioned explanations are much kinder to those of us who make bad bets.

May Lady Luck smile upon you the next time you place your favorite bad bet.

Casino Bonus - Fact or Fiction?

Casino bonuses - what is up with this? Is somebody actually nice enough to give you money for free? Sure, and pigs fly!

You see, the people running online casinos are actually quite clever (no, don’t laugh). They know that giving away an online casino bonus will not only attract more people to their casinos, but they will make money from it as well.

And don’t think that this is a new idea. Land based casinos all over the world have been using “freebies” to attract people to play at their casinos. Think about the free drinks, rooms, etc that casinos offer.

How can online casinos make money from giving away money ? Casino bonus deals are structured in such a way that you can only withdraw it from the casino after you played a number of hands/rolls/spins. The casinos know that few people will have any of the bonus amount left by the end of these hands/rolls/spins, never mind the full amount. Plus, they probably lost their own deposit in the process!

Most people that play at online casinos are either fun players or they don’t have a strategy, or both! These people are the lifeblood of a casino, as they have no idea how to overcome the advantage the casino has over them.

Every casino game has a house edge (the average % of profit that a casino makes from a game). The only way to overcome the house edge is to enter the casino with a working strategy.

But let’s get back to our discussion about casino bonuses.

Actually, for all the bad press, casino bonuses are quite useful. You won’t get rich using them (unless you win the jackpot!), but armed with a bit of knowledge, it is an easy way to make some extra money.

Before you sign up with an online casino based on their newest casino bonus, you *must* read the terms and conditions regarding their promotions. Obviously all the terms and conditions are important, but you really want to check out the following 3 elements:

*Wagering requirements*

Simply put, this is the amount of money you have to wager before you can withdraw the bonus. This is normally expressed as a multiple of your deposit plus your bonus.

Example: The wagering requirement is 20x, you deposit $100 and get $100 bonus.

Therefore, you have to wager a total of $4,000 before you can withdraw the $100 bonus. You can withdraw your deposit at any time.

*Excluded games*

Very important! Some games are excluded from fulfilling the wagering requirements. These are usually the games that have the lowest house edge, including Roulette, Craps and Blackjack and all their variants.

However, if you spend a little time and search around, you will find casinos that will include one or more of these games in the wagering requirements.

*Withdrawal conditions*

A few casinos have withdrawal conditions to withdraw the bonus. Even if you have fulfilled the wagering requirements, you still have to meet certain conditions. These might range from depositing a minimum amount of money to being able to withdraw your winnings only after you reached a certain amount.

These extra conditions mostly relate to free casino bonuses (where you do not have to deposit any money to get a casino bonus). But beware, there are some casinos where these conditions apply to the normal deposit match bonuses.

**Strategy**

In order to make a bit of money from online casino bonuses, you *have* to follow a proven strategy. Your goal is to get through the wagering requirements without losing too much of the bonus. That way you have your initial deposit plus a bonus amount which you can withdraw to make a nice profit.

Who knows, you might even have a very good system and make some profit on top of the casino bonus!

Good luck and start playing!
