How to Stop Thinking and Start Playing

Learning how to improvise is confusing for most. The sheer number of choices becomes a burden. Should I play this note? What chord next? Where do I go from here? All valid questions newbies (and oldbies) at improvisation sometimes ask themselves.

The number one reason people have problems creating in the moment is that they won’t let up on themselves and just play. They knew how to do it once as children but now that memory is gone and with it, a void has taken its place.

Fortunately, there is a solution. It’s really a two-pronged solution because once we do learn how to ease up and just play, we are left with another problem and that is, what game are we playing.

The game of improvisation is a game like any other. We have a few rules, some guidelines, and then the game is played. You see, we must have some kind of structure to play the game of improvisation. Why? Because without it there would be way too many choices and this would prevent most people from even beginning.

Here’s a perfect example. In Lesson 5, “Winter Scene,” we have 2 chords, a scale, and a way to play these chords. With these choices out of the way, we can now focus on and enjoy the act of improvisation. We can play around with the music and feel good about our play.

Some think working within a set of limitations is uncreative. I thought so too once until I realized that until I learned how to do this by following the examples of others, I couldn’t be free to create my own set of limitations.

Overseas Sports Betting Keeps Gaming Fans Close to Base

Many risk takers will surely have come upon the caption “offshore sports betting” by now, though a few maybe aren’t wholly positive what that conveys. A foreign betting web site inherently performs extraneous to the administration of any distinct state alternatively it can be an internet gaming website which locates its central computers inside the borders of a state where online gaming isn’t currently unlawful. In short therefore, it is a gaming facility that runs extraneous of the control of the state of the participant. Internet gaming web pages are mainly modulated by 3 organizations. They are OSGA (the Offshore Gaming Association), the IGC (Interactive Gaming Council) and the Fidelity Trust Gaming Association (the FTGA).

Eagles release veteran LB Dhani Jones

Baccarat Strategy, Myth Or Possibility?

As with any form of casino games, including poker, blackjack and roulette, the player is always looking for a strategy to increase their chances of winning. Many experiences Baccarat players feel that any mention of a strategy is purely based on myth and rightly so. We will look over some of the more common proclaimed strategies in an attempt to come to a concrete conclusion on the Baccarat strategy myth.

The Scorecard
Almost every casino will hand out a scorecard to every player at the table. Players can be spotted keeping track of the outcome of each hand in an attempt to spot patterns in order to take advantage of a streak. The casinos encourage this behavior simply because they know it has no bearing on the outcome of the game. Following a supposed pattern in Baccarat is as fruitless as it is with Roulette. Each hand plays independent of the last but this does not stop betters from believing they have found a betting edge by following trends. It is in your best interest to abstain from this habit as it has no outcome on the cards being dealt and will not provide you with any sort of edge.

Card Counting
While often referred to as a stable of successful Blackjack play, card counting is another card strategy that is meaningless in the game of Baccarat. Although it may appear as a worthy strategy for the Baccarat player, the fact that the issue of used cards being fed back into the “shoe” before all have been removed negates any count you may have made up to that point. Card counting for Baccarat is a race with no end, the cycle of cards makes it impossible to ever have a solid system in place.

What works?
The most common system used would be always betting on the banker. Although this is by far the most boring of any system it is the only one that can be mathematically proven to give you an edge.

The Final Word
After examining the many strategies proposed for the game of Baccarat is becomes quite clear that there is no failsafe method to improve your odds. Betting on the banker may make you a winner more often than not but it also strips the game down to a series of planned bets. It is best to enjoy the game for what it is and abandon any attempt and finding a strategy to help your odds at the Baccarat table.

The Euro Lottery - Bigger and Better than Any Other Lotto

The Euro Millions is a great way to play the lotto. You can either mix it as stacks of people do and play it with the UK National lotto or you can devote yourself to only playing this lottery by yourself and can potentially win just as much, if not more! If your like a growing number of people and you make up your mind to come on board and begin playing it each week you will clearly be making a smart decision as I am about to make clear; As you would have perhaps supposed from the name - Euromillions is played in the European union, it takes place once a week on a Friday and one of the great plus points about playing it is that it is not restricted to the residents of only one specific land! Not the case, the European Lottery pools the stakes of the nine lands that are currently participating.

There have been loads of euromillions participants who have won a small fortune simply by matching the five important draw numbers and just 1 Lucky Star. The probability of reaching this are 1 in 5,448,240 as apposed to 1 in over 76 million for winning the crowning jack-pot. But in these cases from time to time the jack-pot has rolled over for weeks at a time and indeed is sure-fire to pay out even if no one acquires the top-prize. You can also increase your probability by just purchasing even more lottery tickets.

The Digital DJ Licence

In a world which has gone completely mad, and a country which already forces it’s mortals to pay twice for the same thing, the powers that be at PPL have put their collective heads together and decided to get a piece of the action. Somebody somewhere woke up one morning and thought ‘Hey, how can we make consumers and Mobile Discos pay ongoing annual fees for the material which they have already legally bought’ and decided that in order to create some additional revenue it would charge DJ’s £200 ($350) a year purely for the right to convert one type of media (which they have already bought) to another type of media purely for easier archive and playback purposes.

Yes, fellow Dj’s the age old rumour that you can back up your original CD’s to MP3 format for use on a Hard Drive or Digital based player legally in the UK is FALSE! . Doing so is illegal and likely to risk prosecution despite it being perfectly legal and acceptable in many other European Countries, and America either under Fair Use conditions in local copyright acts or the Home Recording Act of 1992 (U.S.A). So in other words, UK based DJ’s are being singled out, penalised and getting the raw deal once again.

The Digital DJ Licence costs you £200 ($350) and this gives you the right to back up original CD’s to MP3 or other digital format for storage and playback on Hard Drive format (upto a maxium of 20,000 tracks) for use on a PC or Laptop, however like anything else there are conditions and several flaws.

Q) I have a Digital DJ Licence so surely I am now fully covered

False!. The first and perhaps most largest flaw in the Digital DJ Licence is the fact that the PPL licence is only half the story!. In order to remain fully legal you also need permission to convert the tracks from the MCPS as well. The Digital DJ licence only covers the PPL side of the law. As well as buying the Digital DJ Licence you will need to contact the MCPS and obtain a licence from them or risk prosecution. Since the MCPS (at the time of writing) do not have a blanket licence similar to the Digital DJ licence in place nor are they part of this Digital DJ licence, then this is likely to work out very expensive and time consuming once you contact the MCPS and also the individual record labels of all of the artists whose material you are converting in order to obtain permission. Assuming they DO give you permission!. If the MCPS or Record Label decline permission to convert any or all requested tracks and you have already bought the Digital Dj Licence then sadly, you have bought yourself a white elephant.

Q) What Additional rights and facilities does the Digital DJ Licence Offer?

Other than the right to convert your existing original CD collection to a more flexible means of archive and playback, absolutely nothing. You cannot use the digital back up at the same time as your original CD Material, so having two roadshows and using your CD material at one, and Laptop at the other would naturally still be illegal and is not granted under the terms of the Digital DJ Licence.

Personally I believe that making Dj’s pay twice and ongoing for converting material, is simply put, unfair discrimination and an attempt at cashing in on the rights of individuals to choose to use alternate technologies where they are available in their marketplace. Dj’s in other countries are not subject to the same laws and fees, so why should UK DJ’s be charged? - after all, we already pay more than our colleagues in other countries for the original CD’s in the first place, charging us a yearly fee on top of that is just taking the piss. What would happen if everybody was charged an annual fee to own and play their legally purchased CD’s in addition to the cost of the CD’s in the first place? - there would be a public outcry and rightly so.Why should this stealth tax on Digital Dj’s be treated with kid gloves?

Q) But we are DJ’s and using material commercially therefore we should pay

This is a tired point and one which is flawed. If you are going to use this point, then what you are suggesting is that all DJ’s should be paying a yearly fee to PPL to play music where a fee is paid to the DJ. There can be no half measures or discrimination here. Either all DJ’s who work for a booking fee (ie to make money) irrespective of whether it’s a public or private function should pay the same Digital Licence fee every year whether they use CD, MP3 or a PC as a means of medium. Is a Digital Dj any more commercially desirable than a conventional CD or Vinyl one, do they earn more money?, command higher fees? do they deny the artist royalties?

Let me ask you a question, if a DJ buys a CD from the mall, goes home and converts it to MP3 purely because it is a more flexible and prefered method of playback for him / her, then leaves the CD in a cupboard at home whilst they take their laptop / pc to a gig, how is this adversely affecting the artiste who created the music?, is the artiste any worse off financially because of these actions? do they deserve a higher fee to compensate?.

Also remember that any venue we work in has to have an entertainment licence by law, which is payable to PPL, meaning that for playing music at least the PPL already has had it’s pound of flesh!.

Q) How did this legislation get in and why wasn’t I consulted?

Like most new legislation, rumour has it that this one arrived via the back door too. There was appearently DJ’s and DJ Associations who were consulted as to their opinion on the matter and the licence was rumoured to have been constructed around their feedback and requirements. However exactly who was consulted and which DJ Associations remain a mystery because nobody has come forward.

Recent polls on the many DJ Forums, Entertainment Blogs and even the BBC show that the majority of DJ’s are not happy with the licence in its current form.

More information on the Digital DJ Licence and campaigns against this unfair legislation can be found at http://www.dj-forum.co.uk.

80’s Energy

I wanted to put together a playlist that had a great collection of the hi-energy dance tunes from the 80’s so I came up with this mix.

I figured I’d start with one of my favorite tunes from the late 80’s the freestyle/hi-energy dance tune Fascinated by Company B. I remember hearing this tune for the first time and just going absolutely nuts over it. It’s an awesome tune to dance to and I still listen to it today. It definitely has the energy and sound of the 80’s, the late Eighties to be exact.

Do you all know that Divine the cult drag actor from such films as Hairspray and Pink Flamingos recorded music in the early 80’s? Well he did and his singing is pretty bad but good in a weird sort of way. The music was produced by Bobby O or Bobby Orlando (his real name) who also produced the Pet Shop Boys. Divine’s track Alphabet Rap is a fun tune where he blurts out “Give Me a A” or “Give Me A B”!

Give you all my love is one of my favorite Stacey Q tracks. Unfortunately it was not such a big hit but it’s still a great track.

I had to include Samantha Fox on this playlist with her pretty big hit Touch Me (I Want To Feel Your Body). I remember hearing about her appearances in Playboy or Penthouse magazines in the nude. This is one of the reason why she became so popular in the late 80’s.

Next up is Bobby O himself with Mixed Up World. This tune reminds me of a real early 80’s Pet Shop Boys track. Figures, because he produced them! Anyway it’s one of my favorite solo tracks of his.

Jody Watley’s Looking For A New Love was a really big hit in the mid 80’s and it’s still fun to listen to so I included it as part of this mix.

Next up is Shannon with one of the biggest dance tunes of the 80’s and of all time, Let The Music Play. I think it was so big it even was a hit on the pop charts as well. Her other hit Give Me Tonight is also a great tune and I heard it in the film Party Monster just the other day. Let The Music Play fits perfectly in this mix.

The next track is called I Can’t Wait by Nu Shooz. It was a pretty big hit in 1986. I believe that’s when it came out and I have a love/hate relationship with this song so I like it but I tend to not admit to liking it but I figured I’d put it in this mix.

Holding Out For A Hero was Bonnie Tyler’s second hit after Total Eclipse Of The Heart a song that I am so sick of I can’t not even think about it and not get sick! I wanted to include her in here so Holding Out For A Hero was the best choice.

Next up is The Dominatrix Sleeps Tonight an awesome song that still sounds fresh today. I remember I first heard this song on Live 105 back in the mid 80’s and I thought it sounded totally like something I hadn’t heard before. It still sounds fresh today and it recently had made it onto an International Deejay Gigolos compilation of electr dance hits. I figured it was on that comp I’d use it here so it fits perfectly in this mix.

I had to have a track from New Order in this playlist and I chose Confusion one of their first dance hits compared to what they were before, Joy Divisiion, the dark and gothic/atmospheric sounding band. This tune has the break dancing vibe and sound to it and I still remember the video included scenes with break dancers on the streets and in nightclubs.

I wanted to include Deep In Vogue in this mix by Malcolm McLaren but I thought Buffalo Gals (Original Mix) by Malcolm McLaren & The World Famous Supreme Team was a better choice. I just love this tune and it totally reminds me of the early 80’s around 82/83. It’s got that sound perfectly.

Another classic from 80’s is Boom Boom Boom by Paul Lekakis. Thisa was a pretty big dance hit in the late 80’s and I haven’t heard of anything else by Paul Lekakis so I figured I’d include Boom Boom Boom in this mix.

The final 2 songs were pretty big hits in the 80’s and I just love them. They have the total 80’s poppy dance sound that I can’t get enough of. We Don’t Have To Take Our Clothes Off by Jermaine Stewart and Catch Me (I’m Falling) by Pretty Poison are the best way to wrap this playlist. Enjoy!

What You Should Know About Living in the Rain Forest - Part 1

What’s it like to live away from “civilization” in the arms of a beach front tropical rain forest? Here are some scenes from my time there.

Emerald-breasted hummingbirds flit in and out feeding from a tree of red and white tendriled flowers. Butterflies dart and dance among lush green foliage all around you. Their markings are a virtual explosion of colors; iridescent blues and greens, yellows with black designs, spotted oranges, yellows and purples on dark background wings.

Sunsets are spectacular panoramas of reds, pinks, purples, oranges and yellows tinged with patterns in grays, blues and purples. Jehovah God’s paintbrush creates a different scene each evening for your viewing pleasure.

Would you like a refreshing drink? Along the beach are coconut groves with trees laden down with as many as 20 or more full, ripe coconuts each. Go ahead, take one or two. In a matter of minutes you can peel and open them. A full glass or two of “water” is inside each one. Drink it straight from the coconut. Then split the fruit open to scoop out and enjoy the soft, creamy white meat. It’s healthy, nutritious and all natural. It’s good for you too.

Rains are soft and warm. You can even collect and drink the water. There’s no pollution of any kind. Water from rain forest fed streams is used for drinking after filtration. No chemicals added. No boiling or sterilization required.

Go ahead, walk along the beach. For miles there’s only you, the flora and fauna of an unspoiled earth. The scurrying and antics of the sand crabs will amuse you. Chirping and croaking of brilliant blue-skinned frogs with their starkly contrasting yellow markings will startle and amaze you.

Cast your gaze across the multi-colored waters of the Pacific Ocean. You can see the dolphins playing in the water less than 50 yards from the beach. Go ahead, take a swim. In this part of the world where there are dolphins there are no sharks. The gentle surf is warm and clean. Your swim will refresh you.

Few dangers pose a threat if you are aware of your surroundings and their significance in the eco-system of the tropical rain forest. Know the flora and fauna. Mesh into the flow of nature and wondrous, beautiful experiences will fill your existence. You will never go hungry. Care for your environment and it will sustain you. “Civilization” will gradually lose its luster and pull. Pleasures like these must have filled the Garden of Eden.

Learning Styles Of Music

Learning styles of music can help you get work, don’t get me wrong; but you need to consider the time and expense involved in knowing a lot of music genre’s, having the goods to do them, and if your locality really wants the specific genre.

DJs invariably enter the profession as a part time hobby because they love the music they play and love to see others enjoying it too.

Usually DJs have an already significant existing vinyl or CD/DVD collection of music that they enjoy and they use this to mix and play for DJ events for which they are hired.

Some DJs like to specialize in a particular genre of music in order to attract a certain type of clientele. This may be because they particularly liked learning styles of music; that genre; or because they know that this will secure regular work.

Dance, Indie, acid or house music is particularly popular with DJs who work the club circuit while 60s, 70s and 80s music is more popular with mobile DJs who host private parties and BBQs.

It depends on what’s popular in your area, as to whether you should offer Country, HipHop, or the latest cutting edge music genre. To learn more about specific music styles, you may want to read up .

Every good DJ experiments with how they will get the crowd moving and different DJs enjoy learning styles of music to do exactly that.

In fact, you will probably find that most DJs have a set routine for how the night will play out according to music, sound, lighting and other effects such as bubbles, background buzz, DJ banter and audience participation.

This methodology works the world around and is irrespective of what genre the DJ specializes in.

Regardless of what music genre a DJ specializes in, the key to the event is not the actual songs themselves but the mix that the DJ puts together.

A good DJ will know how to link together a good mix of songs with both the event and the crowd in mind.

Good DJs now how to put together songs that ebb and flow according to the crowd response and the timing of the event - the DJ cannot allow the crowd to peak too early or the event will then slowly fizzle out, long before it needs to.

When you specialize, it’s much easier to become known for a certain style of music, and a lot cheaper to get a good stock of vinyls or cd’s in that genre since you already have a head start in your favorite style.

DJ Equipment is expensive; so save money where you can and specialize in just a few musical genres instead of many!

Five Fingers Same Position Notes Reading Method

There are beginner piano books begin by introducing five notes i.e. CDEFG in right hand (RH) and CBAGF in left (LH) by using the same fingers position such as on RH note C played by thumb, D played by index finger, etc. On LH note C played by thumb, B played by index finger, so on. I called as “five fingers same position”.

The benefit is before added the new note, beginners have practiced some similar exercises so they, especially kids will not confused by rhythm, names and positions of notes.

Because of many exercises that using the same fingers position, mostly kids tend to read the fingers numbers as notes positions. For instance, they mean no. 1 on RH is C - always played by thumb, no. 2 is D - always played by index finger and so on, likewise on LH.

In early lessons, students seem fluently in notes reading but the problem comes when start playing pieces with no “five fingers same position”.

If students have to use “five fingers same position” books, as teachers, we have to explain from the first lesson that one note can be played by any fingers and fingers numbers are never changed such as on RH no.1 always for thumb, no. 2 always for index finger and so on, likewise on LH.

To make students remember the fingers numbers quickly, we can ask them to play as fast as they can such as “Play C with finger number 1. Now play C with finger number 2 and so on”. The kids will love this fun game! Then ask them play the same piece with any fingers by writing a new fingering on their book. For instance, for RH play C with finger number 2, D with finger number 3 and so on.

There is no perfect method in notes reading, as teachers, we can only find the suitable one for each student by merging one method with another. I prefer using “five fingers same position” book at first lesson by using any kinds of fingers positions, not just as written in book.

It is much benefit and easier to learn right at first than re-learn after made mistakes. However, if students have made misunderstandings on notes reading, no matter with our ‘own’ students that have been taking lessons with us since their first day on piano lesson or transferred ones, just do not ever blame them, their old teachers (for transferred ones) and ourselves especially beginner teachers. It will not make notes reading of students better.

The solution is re-teaching them as first lesson. Of course, it needs much time, patiently and often rather difficult to train ‘a new habit’. The students could be frustrate and complain but with fun game as I mentioned above, kids usually enjoy the lesson again. If happens on teens or adults (so far, I never found yet), we can support them by positive words so that they have ‘new spirit’ to continue their lesson. Moreover, as teachers, we should not ever stop learning.
